Shallots (chopped), 10 nos.
Garlic (chopped), 2 cloves
Preparation
- Wash and soak the green gram in water for 8 hours or overnight.
- Then wash two to three times and cook in a saucepan with 1 ½ cups of water over a low flame, stirring occasionally. It will take approximately 20 minutes for the water to fully evaporate and cook the gram. Do not overcook as it will turn mushy.
- Check salt.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
- Once it pops, add onion, garlic, curry leaves and sauté until the onion turns golden brown.
- Switch off the flame and add to the cooked green gram.
- If you add a little coconut, ¼ tsp turmeric, and ½ tsp chili flakes, it becomes a tasty side dish for rice porridge.
