Wheat puttu
Puttu (steam cake) is a traditional breakfast of Kerala. If you are bored of chapati for dinner, try this puttu with chicken curry or moong dal curry.
Ingredients
1 cup=250mlWheat flour, 2 cups
Salt, 1 tsp
Water, ½ cup
Grated coconut, 12 tbs
Preparation:
- Take wheat flour in a wide bowl.
- Add water and salt little by little and mix with your hands until it becomes moistened. Try to roll into a ball and see if it holds. If it falls apart, continue to add water. If you have large lumps add a tablespoon of wheat flour and mix it, and pulse in a grinder twice. If your grinder is too small, do it in batches. Bear in mind that adding excess water makes it doughy.
- Bring water to boil in a puttu maker. First put two tablespoons of coconut in the cylinder and fill halfway with wheat flour. Repeat again and top off with coconut. Close with lid.
- Once steamy, continue to cook for five minutes. Switch off the flame and carefully remove the cylinder from the pot. Push out the puttu into a plate with a rolling pin or any long ladle. Switch on flame and repeat.
- Your puttu is ready. Enjoy with banana or desired curry.😋
